Wouldn't it be great to build your own electric vehicle in your driveway. We really like what Slate.auto and other companies are doing, but we would like to take it one step further. Our idea is to get all the parts for an EV that you can assemble on 4 jack stands in your driveway or garage. A set of regular auto tools and a few friends could build their own EV and customize it the way they want.
A Unibody frame, A unibody frame for a sedan and truck would be the start. The design would be different and allow for the ease of assembly and disassembly for upgrades and repairs.
Swappable EV battery, The most important part of an EV is the battery, and our design would make it battery agnostic. You could use any battery you want and the setup would work with Tesla, BYD, CATL, etc. batteries. It would also be easier to remove and recycle the batteries and replace them when better battery technology is developed.
An easy to install motor, The EV motors could be delivered as complete packages with brakes, suspension, and everything already mounted. A special design may allow the whole setup to be attached to the frame and connected to the vehicle.
Changeable interior parts, Customizable interior parts from everything to the dashboard and steering wheel to heated seats could be designed to be installed easily by anyone, and upgraded over time.
Easy add-on body componenets, The body components may have to be different, but using rubber or plastic for the front and rear bumpers along with the plastic for the rocker panel/side moulding could reduce the number of body components that are needed. Designing the unibody frame to make it easy to install the body of the vehicle would also allow for customization.
